The Vertical Scale object displays a vertical scale bar down one edge of the column.
Please note that older templates may have an older version of a scale bar present, which although will continue to function as it always has, will not have all of the fields and functionality mentioned below. These older scale items can be left alone or can be replaced by simply re-adding the scale bar to receive the ability to use all of the mentioned functionality. To help in identifying an older scale bar item, these will be labelled as 'VerticalScale' in the design area, where as newer scale bars will be labelled as 'EnhancedVerticalScale'
To insert a Vertical Scale Object into a column, follow the steps below:
- Select the first empty box below the column headers that the item is to be added to.
- Double click on the Vertical Scale in the Depth Related section of the left hand side tree view.
- The Vertical Scale will now be added and the text "[EnhancedVerticalScale]" is inserted in the cell.
- Define the additional properties for the object in the properties form.

- Units - Choose between 'Not Set' (which will then use meters or feet depending on if the configuration pack is metric or imperial units) or choose a specific unit.
- Decimal Place - Select the number of decimal places that the numbers on the scale bar will be shown at.
- Font - Choose the font that the numbers in the scale bar will be presented in.
- Font Colour - Choose which colour the numbers in the scale bar will be presented in.
- Font Size - Select which font size the numbers in the scale bar will be shown at.
- Horizontal Padding - Choose how far (in millimeters) the numbers will be shown away from the aligned horizontal margin.
- Increment - Select how often the numbers in the scale bar will be appear.
- Markers - There are 3 different markers available to show tick marks where needed on a scale bar;
- Short Marker - This is the length of the tick marks for the marks every tenth units.
- Middle Marker - This is the length of the tick mark for the mark at every half unit.
- Long Marker - This is the length of the tick mark for each major unit on the scale.
With the above 3 markers, the following settings can be set;

- Colour - Select the colour of the tick marks
- Length - Select how long each tick mark will appear from the aligned horizontal margin (in millimeters)
- Pattern - Select whether the tick marks should appear as one of the following patterns; Solid, Dotted, Dashed, None
- Pattern Offset - (Only applicable for Dotted or Dashed Patterns) Select the offset for each part of the pattern selected in the Pattern option.
- Thickness - Select the thickness of the selected pattern.

- Scale Alignment - Select whether the vertical scale bar and tick marks should appear on the left hand side of the column or the right hand side.
- Number Alignment - Select whether the numbers on the vertical scale bar should appear on the left hand side of the column or the right hand side or in the middle of the column.
- Hide Numbers - ON for no numbers added to the scale bar - OFF for numbers at each major unit
- Show First Number - Select this item to show the first number on the scale bar.
- Show Last Number - Select this item to show the last number on the scale bar.
- Ground Level Scale - (Note that this maybe known as Elevation in other parts of the world) Select this item to show the scale bar with a scale relevant to the elevation of the location.
It is possible to have as many scale bars as required and you can combine them with other bars in the same column if needed.
